IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphological Sperm Injection)

IMSI is a technique in which a high-powered microscope is used with magnification (digital magnification) up to 8,000x to examine the sperms. The digitally enhanced images of the sperm allow the embryologist to detect any structural abnormalities that are difficult to locate with conventional microscopes (magnification 400x). But in cases the sperm count is low and number of normal sperms is still less this technology helps in selection of the best quality sperms with most normal morphology for fertilization. It is an improved variation of ICSI. motility is good in the ejaculate.

  • Very low numbers of sperm, and

How IMSI treatment is done?

This method is done to further improve the chances of ICSI in assisted reproductive technology especially in patients with several unsuccessful IVF cycles. It is a method in which sperm is selected before micro injection for fertilization. The selection of sperm without morphological abnormalities is believed to increase the chances of successful implantation of the embryo and decrease the chances of miscarriage.
