Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

It is Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (PICSI). It is a procedure of selecting the best possible sperm for based on physiological characteristic along with good motility and morphology, before injecting it into the egg as in normal intracytoplasmmic injection during an IVF protocol. This procedure helps us in picking a single mature sperm for injecting into the egg. Since it is known only a mature sperm can bind to the oocyte complex (Hyaluronan) to fertilize the egg, It helps to increase the chances of fertilization, implantation

Such mature sperms have fewer chromosomal abnormalities than the immature sperms. This procedure helps us in having the additional benefit over ICSI. This technique is possible, if the sperm count and motility is good in the ejaculate.

The Principle:-

• Expression of protein HspA2 indicating sperm maturation.
