When Should You See an Infertility Expert
Chances of conception for any couple having regular unprotected
intercourse for one year or more are 80%. Based on this it is the right
time to see an expert and get the investigations done.
Definition:
Infertility is defined as the inability to attain pregnancy after 1 year of regularly
unprotected coitus. If you have not been able to conceive after a year of trying one should see the doctor.
Advice should be taken earlier if
- The female partner is nearing the age of 35 or
- Irregular periods or
- History of pelvic infections
- If male partner has sexual dysfunction/ ejaculatory problem/ undescended testis.
Problems in Female Partner:
1. Tubal damage due to infections or due to surgery
2. Ovarian disorders
3. Uterine factors/ No periods/ Irregular periods
4. Unexplained infertility
5. Endometriosis
6. Age Factor
7. Premature Ovarian failure/ Primary
8. Multiple IVF failure
9. Multiple IUI failure
10. Immunological factors causing infertility
11. Repeated miscarriages
12. Family history of genetic diseases
13. Uterine factor (third party reproduction)
Problems in Male Partner:
Male factor infertility (oligoasthenoteratozoospermia, retrograde ejaculation, an ejaculation):
1.Obstructive Azoospermia (Complete absence of sperms)
2. Oligospermia (Low Sperm Count)
3. Oligoasthenozoospermia (Low sperm motility)
4. Oligoteratozoospermia (Abnormal sperms)
5. DNA fragmentation
6. Sexual dysfunction
7. Ejaculatory Problem
8. Erectile Dysfunction
9. Undescended testicles
10. Varicocoele veins around the testis
Sometimes both male and female have problems, which needs to address for a successful outcome.
